Ken's Pick   (Okanagan Valley, B.C.)

Gehringer Brothers Ehrenfelser 2022 VQA 13% abv

Tasting Notes: Ehrenfelser is a Riesling Silvaner cross; an early ripener, it is ideally suited to the climate in B.C.'s Okanagan Valley, where it has had great success. The grape variety, although well established, is still untried by many in Canada, which is a shame. It is an ideal summer patio sipper. Appearance: golden delicious apple skin, pale gold. Nose: cooked pear, marmalade, ginger, wintergreen. Palate: off-dry, candied lemon peel, Mcintosh apple sauce, white peach, bitter orange. Medium -full body. Medium short finish. This would be excellent with fruit salads, light poultry dishes. I paired it with chicken schnitzel and mashed potatoes: very nice! Drink now. Serve chilled.

Price: $22.49 750 ml

Harry's Pick   (Scotland )

Ardbeg 25 Year Old Islay Single Malt

Tasting Notes: Bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the Distillery’s darkest days, this is Ardbeg at its most intricate, balanced and beguiling. Majestic aromas of smoked cream and earthy bonfires are masterfully interwoven with layers of pine and fragrant candle wax. Hot pepper rises on the palate, twisting around lemon sherbet sweetness, while hints of carbolic soap and tar flow into a long aftertaste characterized by delicate aniseed entwined with lingering cream and fudge. Non chill-filtered with a strength of 46%

Price: $1,557.99

DeWayne's Pick   (Canada)

2021 Mission HIll Reserve Syrah

Tasting Notes: Happy Canada Day ! BBQ season is moving into high gear and aromas of Burgers, Smokies, and Steaks are in the air. This is a wine that pairs very well with Summer menus. The fruit is sourced from the top 15% of the estate vineyards and 75% of the same vineyard blocks are used to ensure consistency vintage to vintage. Bold and structured. This wine is a deep purple colour with intense aromas of toasty oak, damson plum, blueberry and some meaty, gamy notes making it a perfect pairing with wild game meat. The palate is full with medium acidity, ripe tannins, flavours of blueberry, plum, blackberry and lots of chocolate, coffee and vanillin oak. Aged 14 months in oak barrels. Alcohol 14.5% Blend: Syrah, Viognier. Winner of the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). Bronze 2021. Vintage Awarded: 2024. Will pair well with Beef and Venison

Price: $36.99

Spirit Hills Yeehaa! Flower Wine

Tasting Notes: Spirit Hills is a local flower winery located just outside of Calgary in Millarville. Their wines are all made with the wildflowers of the Canadian Rocky Mountain foothills terroir that provide the nectar to begin the fermentation process. Like grape skins for traditional wine, flower petals are used to add both aroma and flavor to their wines. This technically makes the Spirit Hills flower wines a sub-category of mead by using honey nectar as the wine base but evolving it by using all of the wildflowers in contrast to using grapes. I was blown away with their six staple wines, Dande, Bonfire, Wild Rosy, Whitetail, and Yeehaa. Particularly Yeehaw! It is a sangria style flower wine made with dandelion honey, black currants, apples and cinnamon to create a sweet but jammy-rich red wine. Sweet cinnamon, sandalwood, apple pie and berries on the nose. On the palate you can taste the quality ingredients added in the making of the wine where the black currant is highlighted with the warmth of the cinnamon, making it taste like a cozy blueberry/blackberry pie. The sweetness is well balanced and the 13.5% ABV gives it plenty of body to pair with BBQ meats or to sip on its own. Great for Canada Day BBQs, enjoy!

Black Sage Vineyards Merlot 2021

Tasting Notes: With such a hot early summer in 2021, The Merlot grapes ripened quickly giving way to a wine that has an added candied cherry profile. The nose has notes of ripe plums, blackberries, vanilla, cloves, and some sweet smoke. The palate has similar flavours of rich ripe fruit and spices with pleasant smoky vanilla notes. The tannins are soft and the finish is long with the flavours lingering long after the last sip. It is a plush, round and juicy style that will appeal to many, perfect for summer barbeques and entertaining. Prime rib or a good steak would be a good match. Happy Canada Day!

Price: $34.99

Cashton's Pick   (Italy)

Giusti Augusto Recantina

Tasting Notes: This Italian grape Recantina was seldom used in modern wine until the last couple of decades. Its small size and resilient skin give it a fairly bold flavor and earthy layers. In the glass, we are greeted by a deep purplish red. On the nose, expect luscious red fruit and subtle fresh tobacco. As for flavor, plums and cherries are accompanied by moderate tannins. The wine is dry but not as tannic as one might expect for this much bold flavor. Great with steak or pork - try out this rare grape today!

Price: $43.99

Taylor's Pick   (Nicaragua)

18 Year Flor de Cana Rum

Tasting Notes: Founded in 1890, Flor de Cana is a 5th generation family business. Built on the nutrient-rich terroir of Nicaragua’s tallest active volcano: the San Cristóbal. Flor de Cana is a world-famous distillery based on family values and respect for the Earth. All their rums are 100% certified carbon neutral, additive and preservative free, and aged in bourbon barrels. Their 18 year old rum is on display this month as it is an exquisite sipping rum patiently aged in American white oak bourbon barrels for 18 years to obtain its oaky and extra smooth finish. Each sip offers notes of caramel, intense vanilla and spices on the palate. The finish reveals further depth and slowly evolving complexity. Sip your way and enjoy!
