Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: A delicious style of Chardonnay, a grape I personally enjoy. In celebration of Women Winemakers for International Women's Day this month, I've chosen the Australian Gem.
On the nose, a delicate perfume of lemon cheesecake, panna cotta, a touch of pawpaw, light herbal coriander and lemon verbena notes, is supported by the underlying aroma of limestone and hazelnuts. On the palate light yet fleshy with lovely bright acidity, the palate carries to a crunchy, chalky finish with hints of green pawpaw, white peach and custard tart.
About Virginia Willcock, Chief Wine Maker at Vasse Felix ...
“There are two types of winemakers – technical and intuitive,” says Virginia. “I’m the latter – I enjoy that beautiful process of learning and understanding what the fruit wants to do.”It’s an approach that has seen Virginia become one of the most awarded winemakers in Australia, but she modestly attributes much of her acclaim to the Margaret River region’s unique location, surrounded by towering karri forest and the powerful Indian Ocean.
