Lapostolle Apalta 2021  Chile

Tasting Notes: This Chilean red blend from the Apalta region utilizes Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes primarily. The Lapostolle winery ownership is related to the legendary Grand Marnier founders. In the glass, it shows a nearly opaque yet gentle reddish purple. On the nose, it emits an earthiness along with distant dark fruits. Lucious blueberries, plums, blackberries, cherries and chocolate grace the palate before a drying, moderately tannic finish. I suggest letting this wine breathe for at least an hour before consumption, and I think it could safely hide away for another 1 - 2 years in your cellar. Having said that, its ready to drink now and would make a lovely pairing with pulled pork or other moist red-meat dishes. Enjoy!

Sea Change Classic Blonde Ale  Canada

Tasting Notes: As one of Edmonton's most prominent craft breweries, Sea Change has a fantastic variety of classic and eclectic styles. Their Classic Blonde Ale pours a creamy golden yellow with a moderate haziness. Both barley and wheat are used resulting in a lovely layered flavor and the semi-opaque appearance. This approachable style can satisfy old-school domestic beer drinkers along with craft beer aficionados. Enjoy!

Blindman Brewing Dark Shadows IPA  Canada

Tasting Notes: This deeply dark and enticing IPA from Blindman Brewing in Lacombe, AB provides an elegant balance of malty gravity and hoppy effervescence. At 6.6% alcohol, this IPA evokes shady and smooth foliage accompanied by a retreating bitter brightness. It's introduced as slightly-sweet, and gracefully arrives at a woodsy pine finish. The hops are floral, pronounced and carefully mixed into the whole. Dark IPAs can draw newcomers to the hoppier styles with such a grounded malt base to back up the bitterness. I highly recommend this Alberta brew - try it out!

Johnnie Walker Black Label  Scotland

Tasting Notes: This classic blended scotch whisky from Johnnie Walker can be seen in many bars and lounges. Aged for 12 years, Black Label is a versatile staple with a moderate price point. On the nose, a pleasant oak profile is accompanied by some smoky goodness. On the palate, we're greeted with warm vanilla, caramel and a subtly present peat note. With its rich depth and inviting smoothness, this blend is a crowd pleaser and one of my favorites. I often take this whisky neat, but its great on ice as well. It also makes a fantastic Scotch & Soda highball, as you'll often see it mixed with San Pellegrino at my desk. Johnnie Black can also make a great Stengah, which uses equal parts whisky and club soda on ice.

Blue Mountain Pinot Gris  Canada

Tasting Notes: This offering from southern BC's Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars is a beautifully bright and playful Pinot Gris. On the nose, we get notes of green apple and fresh pear. As for taste, a pleasantly radiant wave of citrus and sour green apple is followed by a crisp finish. There is a prominent light fruit body that is briskly layered by a well balanced acidic cleanliness. A versatile white wine like this is easy to pair and always a delight at the table.

Fat Tug IPA - Driftwood Brewery  Canada

Tasting Notes: Driftwood Brewery in Victoria, BC demonstrate notable expertise with most of their diverse lineup, but Fat Tug is known as their flagship product and has become one of western Canada's most popular IPAs. On the nose, this golden brew emits light fruit and citrus with some piney hops. The taste is crispy and fresh. Plenty of bitterness and hops, but focuses on fruity flavors, including notes of pineapple and green apple.
