Client Product Notes

  1. Brimrose Spirits 1769 Distillery Royal Mount Gin, Canada, 40% abv. $54.99 750 ml.

Developed by two brothers, Alex and Matthew Mikus, Royalmount Gin is batch distilled in Montreal. The brothers share a passion for sustainability: for example, the bottle is sourced from an eco-responsible Italian supplier. It’s a super light 550 g., which means less fuel costs to transport, and easier handling.  “As the new generation of distillers, we have a responsibility to show that you can be sustainable and still create a premium quality product.” says Matthew. Recipe: rose petals, cucumber, juniper berries, coriander, orris root, angelica root, cardamom, licorice root, grains of paradise and zests of orange and lemon. The rose petals and cucumbers are distilled separately, then blended to give Royalmount Gin its distinctive aroma and taste. Style: London Dry. Distiller’s Notes: Hints of cucumber, rose, citrus and juniper. On the palate, a touch of refreshing cucumber, followed by delicate floral notes from the rose and piney notes of juniper with a zing of citrus and cracked pepper on the finish.

  1. Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin, Spain, 40% abv. $43.99 700 ml.

Nordés has a unique character as far as premium gins go, made possible by ingredients which grow wild in Galicia and capture the essence of the Atlantic. The albariño grape, native to Galicia, is in part what makes Nordés unique (many other gins are distilled from a grain based spirit). The recipe also contributes: 6 of the botanicals grow wild in Galicia, namely sage, bay leaf, lemon verbena, eucalyptus, peppermint and glasswort (Marsh Samphire/Sea Bean), a plant found in coastal regions, which create its distinctive balsamic aroma. The other 5 botanicals are sourced overseas: juniper, ginger, cardamom, hibiscus and black tea. All the botanicals are macerated separately before distillation, each requiring a different amount of time based on the exact aroma desired, from a few hours to almost a month in certain cases. Style: Contemporary. Distiller’s Notes: Nordés is Galicia in a bottle. Its character, flavour and aromas, just like its native land, are refreshing and authentic. It has a herbal aroma and a flavour which is fresh, subtle and well balanced, with notes of white fruit, making it a truly unique gin. This is a fruity gin which is perfect for savouring life’s little pleasures.

  1. The Newfoundland Distillery Company Cloudberry Gin, Canada, 40% abv. $52.49 750 ml.

The Newfoundland Distillery Company was founded in 2016 by William Carter and Peter Wilkins with the aim to celebrate the terroir of Newfoundland and create distinctive spirits using local ingredients.  The distillery is the first craft distillery in Newfoundland which uses locally grown barley as the base spirit for many products. Juniper and other ingredients are all picked locally, on land or from the sea. The unique botanical in this gin is bakeapple, aka cloudberry, a bulbous, bright-orange fruit found all over Newfoundland.  NFLD Distillery has taken the beloved fruit and distilled it into a gin. Recipe: cloudberry, chaga, rhubarb, partridgeberry, sea salt, dulse, kelp, caribou moss, nettle, spruce tips, alder pepper and savory. Style: Contemporary/Dry Gin. Distiller’s Notes:

This gin is full of juniper and cloudberry (bakeapple) picked from the wilds of Placentia Bay, with a little savory from Mt Scio. We've tried to keep if very pure and simple using only local botanicals. This one is a little fruity, the cloudberries giving it a few citrus notes which balance out the juniper.

  1. Empress Elderflower and Rose Gin, Canada, 42.5% abv. $58.99 750 ml.

For more than 10 years, Victoria Distillers has been producing some of Canada’s finest handmade spirits, most notably, their award-winning gins. Inspired by Victoria, British Columbia, Empress Elderflower Rose Gin pays homage to ‘The City of Gardens,’ where flowers blossom nearly year-round. The fresh, floral botanicals create a delicate spirit with a distinctive all-natural rose hue. To achieve Empress Elderflower Rose Gin’s ruby hue, the distillers use a unique combination of red rose petals and black carrots. No artificial colours or stabilizers are used, so while the flavour will last, the unique ruby colour will fade over time. Recipe: juniper, red rose petal, elderflower, lavender, orange peel, orris root, cinnamon bark, coriander seed, black carrot. Style: Contemporary Gin. Distiller’s Notes:  Nine beautifully blended botanicals create a delicate spirit with a stunning all-natural rose hue. Empress Elderflower Rose has a rich aroma and a surprisingly understated floral palate. With exquisite citrus and spice notes and a hint of sweetness, Elderflower Rose Gin allows each botanical to shine.

  1. Gray Whale California Botanical Gin, USA, 43% abv. $69.99 750 ml.

In 2016, Marsh and Jan Mokhtari  founded Golden State Distillery, a distillery that celebrates California and supports the Golden State through nature and wildlife conservation.  Gray Whale gin pays tribute to the migratory journey of the Gray Whale, with a gin made of botanicals foraged along the migratory path of that majestic creature, from Temecula limes to sea kelp in Mendocino, as well as a few stops in between. Recipe(in pot still):  juniper, Big Sur, kombu , Mendocino Coast, almonds, Capay Valley; (in vapour basket): limes, Temecula, fir tree, Sonoma,

Mint, Santa Cruz. Style: New Western/London Dry. Distiller’s Notes : seven times distilled  using botanicals sourced from sustainable farms or wild foraged. Aromas of citrus fruit, juniper and a hint of coastal fir trees are followed by flavours of fresh mint and sea kelp. The flavours are long-lasting with a creamy almond finish.

  1. Hendricks Neptunia Gin, Scotland, 43.4% abv. $69.99 750 ml.

Created at the Hendrick’s distillery on the rugged Ayrshire coast of southwest Scotland, Hendrick’s Neptunia was inspired by the poetic melody of the waves that enchanted their Master Distiller, Ms. Lesley Gracie as she strolled the local beaches. The name refers to Neptunia – the goddess of the sea. Recipe: juniper, citrus, herbs, cucumber, rose, sea kelp, coastal thyme. Style: Contemporary/New Western. Distiller’s Notes: a wave of flavour with an enticing chorus of deeply refreshing coastal botanicals, combining a smooth, bright citrus finish with a deliciously distant sea breeze.
